Rope facades for Nujuma, a Ritz Carlton Reserve

Jakob Rope Systems was responsible for the supply of fiber ropes, engineering and installation support for rope facades on the Nujuma, a Ritz Carlton Reserve, on Ummahat Island at «The Red Sea» destination, built according to the plans of Foster + Partners.

Participation in «The Red Sea» destination is one of our major construction contracts. A new type of destination is being built on the west coast of the Red Sea, covering an area of over 28,000 square kilometers. The destination comprises an archipelago of more than 90 islands (only 22 of which are being developed).

The destination is expected to be fully complete by 2030 and will feature 8,000 hotel rooms and more than 1,000 residential properties in island resorts, mountain retreats and desert locations. Leading offices are involved in planning the architecture: Foster + Partners (London), Killa Design (Dubai) and Kengo Kuma & Associates (Tokyo).

The Nujuma, a Ritz Carlton Reserve on Ummahat Island, opened in May 2024. Over the past few months, we were able to support the implementation of the unique rope facades here.

Ropes and engineering developed in Swiss Emmental

For the project area of Ummahat Island, a developer and supplier of a high-quality rope facade construction was sought. More precisely for the implementation of rope facades according to the designs of the architects of Foster + Partners.

Jakob Rope Systems supplied the sophisticated substructures (due to the double curvature) and fiber ropes developed exclusively for this project. In addition, we were supporting the construction project with our engineering and installation assistance on site.

  • To implement the architectural designs, we have developed the rope facade system ready for installation on site.
  • After approval from our customer, we started producing the ropes and all other components.
  • We accompanied all steps of the installation on site at our customer's request. This ensured a smooth and quick installation.

This video (link video) of Red Sea Global illustrates the rope cladding process by Jakob Rope Systems, showcasing the stages of design, manufacture, delivery, and supervision. It features many details that exemplify our rope makers and engineering expertise.
